Prayer is requested for human rights defender, journalist and Christian convert Mary Mohammadi after Amnesty International reports her enforced disappearance since late February 2026.

Mary was arrested for the first time at the age of 19 after converting from Islam to Christianity at a house church meeting and was imprisoned in Evin Prison from November 2017 to May 2018. Mary was arrested again in January 2020. She was released on bail on 27 February and sentenced to three months in prison and 10 lashes in April 2020 on account of her participation in a protest following the downing of Ukrainian passenger plane PS752.

In April 2023 Mary was presented with the St. Stephen’s Award for Persecuted Christians at a ceremony in Bonn for her “outstanding courage” and “extraordinary selflessness.

According to Amnesty International, Mary was communicating with her family after travelling from Tehran to Ahvaz until around 26 February when contact abruptly ceased.

The authorities have refused to disclose her whereabouts but, according to Amnesty International’s sources, she was initially held in Ahvaz before being transferred to an undisclosed location on 2 April 2026.
