Middle East Concern, in collaboration with Open Doors International, Article 18 and CSW has released the 2023 annual report on violations of the rights of Christians in Iran.
Iranian Christians, along with other religious minorities, continued to suffer multiple violations of their right to freedom of religion or belief in 2022. Ongoing surveillance by the authorities was often accompanied by harassment and the threat of criminal charges. A disturbing trend is the increased involvement of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in abusing Christians during arrest and interrogation.
Most Christians facing prosecution were cited under the recently amended Article 500 of the Penal Code, charged with “engaging in propaganda that educates in a deviant way contrary to the holy religion of Islam.”
