The verdict in the trial of  Mohamed and Hamdi, charged with “apostasy” and “spreading Christianity,” and several other defendants, has still not been announced. This despite the judge communicating several times that a decision could be expected soon.

As previously reported, the sentencing hearing, initially planned for 22 May, was postponed without clear reasons.

The charges stem from raids on 21 and 22 January 2021, when police arrested Mohamed and Hamdi, and mid-February when the other defendants were detained. Hamdi was allowed to keep their baby with her in prison.

The long wait and uncertainty increases the stress on those detained.

Prayer Points

Mohamed, Hamdi and other Somali Christians request continued prayer:

  • That those still detained will continue to experience God’s closeness and strength
  • For inner peace and encouragement from Christians around the world praying for them
  • That ongoing advocacy efforts will bear fruit
  • For God’s intervention; that the court will decide soon in favour of the defendants
